The first Friday of the 2021-22 school year just so happened to fall on Friday the 13th.  On that day, Mrs. Emily Kent prompted her AVID students to jot down, "What was the scariest thing that happened this first week of school?"  Students' thoughts were then anonymously posted on the board.  Mrs. Kent instructed students to retrieve a "scary sticky" and respond with advice for how to "RISE above the scary moment."  After doing so, the class discussed how everyone shares similar worries and concerns and how we can support each other through them.

The first Friday the 13th of the new school year looked a lot less daunting for AVID students when they worked to rise above their fears as a tribe.
